Subject: Connection errors with Centra

Every once in a while, while attending a Centra meeting your client
may lose its connection to the Centra server. For dial-in participants,
this often happens because their modem loses its connection. Usually,
the best thing to do is to try to enter the Centra event again, logging
back in through the main centra web page if necessary. Sometimes
this works, but sometimes you may get an error from the Centra server,
which says something like: "login failure - user id is currently in use".

This error means that the server thinks you are still connected to the
event, even though you are not. The server will wait for a timeout
period to expire without receiving any communication from your client
before it will assume that your client really died (as opposed to
just having communications delays because of network congestion or
other issues).

If this happens to you, the best thing to do is to wait a few minutes
and try again. Normally, you should be able to connect again within
five minutes or so. Past versions of Centra used in previous semesters
had a longer timeout, which made this problem much more annoying, but
Centra reduced this period.
