Installing Java 6 and BlueJ

Java 6 Download Site (Java SE Development Kit - JDK 6)
BlueJ Download Site
Command prompt script (sets path to include java and calls cmd); place inside the folder that contains your java sources, then double-click

Compiling and executing your first Java programs

Using the command-line
1. Install the Java SE Development Kit (JDK)
2. Create a folder where you would like your java files stored
3. Place "cmdhere.bat" inside that folder
4. Double-click on "cmdhere.bat"
5. From the command prompt:
  - type "edit ProgramName.java" to create/modify your Java source program
  - type "javac ProgramName.java" to compile your Java program
  - type "java ProgramName" to execute your compiled Java program
Using BlueJ
- Install BlueJ (make sure the JDK is installed first)
- Create a project (Project -> New Project...)
- Create a java class (click on New Class Button); note: project name and class name do not need to match
- Right-click on the newly created class icon to:
  - create/modify your Java source program: (Open Editor)
  - compile your Java program: (Compile)
  - execute your compiled Java program: (void main(String[]))
