Grading
The work in the course consits of three
elements:
- Presentations:
Each participant is expected to read, summarize,
present, and lead the discussion of a related set of papers on one or
more of the course topics. The course Calendar lists the topics and the
associated readings.
- Discussion:
Each participant is expected to be routinely and actively
engaged in the discussion of the topics by seeking or offering
clarification, raising relevant and interesting questions, suggesting
extensions, and/or making critical technical comments.
- Project: Each
participant must complete a
term project. A project may be an individual or small group effort. A
number of projects will be identified but participants may also conduct
projects that are within the subject matter of the course and approved
in advance.
The distribution of credit for the various assignments is shown in

letter grade increment (e.g., from A- to B+, or B+ to B) based on the
instructors accumulated sense of the student's participation in class
discussions throughout the semester.
