Date: Wed, 12 Nov 1997 10:23:51 -0500 From: "Timothy A. Reed" To: fox@fox.cs.vt.edu Subject: Student Projects Ed- I am looking for students who might be able to work with developing web pages and some interactive computer applications for a special project in student affairs. Last year, the Division of Student Affairs received a grant to develop web and CD-ROM based programs to provide supplemental support for orientation. The program is called "Hi, Tech!". Right now, we have four areas for which we will be concentrating: Alcohol Issues, Sexuality Issues, Civility Issues and General "Adjustment Issues" What I'd like to do is find individuals or groups who could work with a sub-task part of each area. For example, in the General Area, we'd like a web page with some "interesting but simple" graphics and explanation that would give students and parents a realistic view of what move-in day is like as well as provide tips for "surviving" the day. Obviously, I would work with the team on a consulting basis and for a task like this have Residence Hall people available to help too. I have many of these kind of sub-tasks which could be used in many different classes. After reviewing the CS1205 syllabus, it seemed to me that these could work in those classes. I am also beginning to develop a CD-ROM application with some grad students in teaching and learning but would also like to have some undergraduate input. My deadline for these projects to be on-line is late next spring through start of school so there is flexibility to fit with spring course requirements. I'd be glad to sit down with you and show you more details of the project plan so you could better determine if these kind of projects would work. Let me know what you think and if you have suggestions. Some very preliminary info is available on the VPSA web site http:/www.vpsa.vt.edu/ Thanks Tim Reed Timothy A.
