This laboratory is one of three funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF)
as part of the 5 year Research Infrastructure award made for 1993-1998.
Professor R. Ehrich directs this effort, that is coordinated with the other 4
Principal Investigators: E. Fox (CS), H.R. Hartson (CS), D. Hix (CS), R.
Williges (ISE).
This particular lab is directed by E. Fox, and deals specifically with
multimedia, hypertext, and other information access activities by way of
providing capture, processing, and storage facilities.
COMPUTER SYSTEMS
- Digital Video Editing System (Radius
Telecast)
- video.cs.vt.edu: Sun 10 with Parallax board, 12G storage, extensive
software tools, used in CS4624 and other classes
- 3 Pentium systems, one with attached color scanner
- boris.cs.vt.edu: Mac 8100, 5G disk, 130M RAM, with color scanner
- researchsmp2.cc.vt.edu: IBM SMP, 6 processors, 512M RAM, 70 G disk,
4 terabytes DLT-based storage, hierarchical storage management system,
IBM digital library software (located in and jointly owned
with Computing Center)
- a variety of other IBM systems running AIX, and miscellaneous other
computer, audio/visual and communication equipment
