Project Deliverable #8

Team Member Evaluations

Due: in-class on Wednesday, Dec. 7, or at the start of the final exam

A note of credit:  This assignment is based on similar projects (and in some places similar wording) from Dr. Rex Hartson and from Dr. John Carroll.

Overview

One of the main components of this course was the semester project. This project was designed to be a team project in which all members of the team would contribute to and participate in each deliverable.

To help assign individual grades, each team member must INDIVIDUALLY complete a paper printout of the Team Member Evalution Form as a required deliverable. The evaluation form should be completed honestly and professionally and should report on the relative effort and contribution of each team member, including yourself, over the whole project.

These rating forms will help the instructor assign grade weightings to convert the team project grades to individual student project grades.

What To Do and How

Print and fill out a paper copy of the Team Member Evalution Form
The evalutaions are a required assignment that must be turned in by each team member individually. No electronic copies will be accepted. On the form, you should evaluate each of your team members (including yourself) in an honest and professional manner.

Rating of Contribution/Effort
Give your rating of each team member over the whole project as a kind of weighting factor, based on a nominal rating of 100%. i.e., a 100% rating means that a team member gave 100% of what was reasonably expected from that team member. So, if your team members all contributed essentially the same amount, then each member is assigned 100. However, if you believe someone did more than their share or that someone did not carry their fair share of the load, you should indicate that here. This is your way, and ours, to make sure a fair evaluation is made for effort rendered. Thus, if a team member gave only 80% of the effort/contribution of what was expected, you would assign that team member 80 as a rating. The numbers do not have to add up to an average of 100% for each team member. In rare cases you may rate a team member more than 100%. For any member you do not rate at least 90%, you must explain your rating in the comments.

Confidentiality
The instructor and GTA will read your ratings and comments, but we will make efforts to keep them anonymous outside our grading discussions. However, the general thrust of the overall set of evaluations for a team might have to be discussed with a team member. Use the comments area of the form to convey anything we should know regarding team work and group dynamics. For example, did one of your partners dominate the decision making and directing of the project to the extent that it diminished the learning experience for you?

Deliverables

Each individual team member is to hand in an individual team member evaluation form, as a single sheet of paper separate from the project report notebook.

Grading

No credit toward the project grade will be given for this assignment, but late submission (or no submission) of this assignment will result in points deducted from your overall individual project score.
