SOUTH EAST ASIA REGIONAL
COMPUTER CONFEDERATION (SEARCC)
CODE OF ETHICS

This document, which should be read in conjunction with the Constitution of SEARCC, provides the code of ethics by which Members should conduct themselves.

1.0 GENERAL IMPERATIVES

1.1 Members of SEARCC shall conform to the letter and spirit of the Code set out hereunder.
1.2 Members shall at all times act in a manner that supports the aims of SEARCC.
1.3 Members shall act at all times with integrity.
1.4 Members shall establish a code of professional conduct for the membership of their respective organisations and ensure its compliance in accordance with the appropriate system of enforcement in their countries.

2.0 RELATIONS WITH SEARCC

2.1 Members shall serve the common interest of all other Members in accordance with the aims of SEARCC.
2.2 Members shall accept full responsibility and obligation for any work assigned to or accepted by them in the specific or broad interests of Members.

3.0 RELATIONS WITH FELLOW MEMBERS

3.1 Members shall act with trust and in good faith towards each other.
3.2 Members shall foster an environment of goodwill and co-operation and assist other Members in SEARCC in all ways possible and provide freely any guidance that is necessary and within their ability.
3.3 Members shall conduct all dealings with fellow Members in a professional manner.
3.4 Members shall respect the confidentiality of information shared by other Members.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
FOR THE PREPARATION OF
CODES OF ETHICS FOR MEMBERS
(SEARCC)

These guidelines provide a model framework for the Members to develop their respective codes of ethics for the direction of the professional behaviour of their individual members.
1. IT Professionals are expected to achieve the highest quality in both the process and products of their professional work.
2. IT Professionals shall maintain and improve their professional competence.
3. IT Professionals shall comply with the existing laws pertaining to professional work in any country in which they practice.
4. IT Professionals shall strive to use their technical expertise to advance human welfare and the quality of life for the people of the region.
5. IT Professionals shall accept the ethical obligation to assess social consequences and help ensure safe and beneficial use of information technology.
6. IT Professionals shall encourage understanding of information technology.
7. IT Professionals shall counter misrepresentation of facts on information technology.
