Basic Computer Ethics
This page deals with Basic Ethical considerations in the computing world.
This lecture should be taught at the same time that basic computing methods
are being taught. These are the important ethical issues that all
students should be aware of from their first experiences forward.
Readings - To be read before class
In Class Assignments - These are assignments that will be completed
in class.
- Get into a group and brainstorm to create a list of all the software
that you each use on a daily basis. Then attach prices to each of
these producs and try to figure out how much money they are worth.
This is the amount of money that the software companies would have lost
had you pirated the software.
Projects - Both group and individual.
- Go home and check to be sure that you can find licences for all of
the non-shareware and non-freeware software on your system (if you do not
have a system at home, then do the same in the school library). Then
write a one page summary of what you have learned about software piracy.
