CS 3604: Grading Scheme

Fall 2002, Dr. Rosson

Your overall grade will be a function of the following categories of graded work or activity:

  1. Writing Assignments -- 40%, including
  2. Class activities — 10%
Calculated as a tally of performance on in-class quizzes, small group exercises, discussion questions contributed, etc. More information on the various class activities yielding points is available on the class Web site. The GTA will maintain a running total of the points possible for class activities, as well as the number obtained by each individual. Final individual percent grades will be determined via a curve.

  3. Professional activities — 10%
Calculated as a tally of participation in a range of professional activities that take place outside class. Full credit for this category can be obtained through participation in 20 hours of service learning. Smaller amounts can be earned by attending lectures, helping with tutoring or other volunteer work, participation in research (not paid), etc. Up to 6 points can also be earned by full participation in other team's debates during the online debating period.

  4. Debates—25%, including:
    • Debate management—10 points
    • Oral presentation—15 points
Note that individual grades on this component may vary as a function of team member evaluations.

  5. Final exam—15%
A mixture of multiple choice and essay questions. Sample questions and review information will be made available as we progress through the topics of the course.
