| This is a standing assignment for the semester. You are to collect 5 "articles" on topics that are relevant to our course. These can be stories from a web page, a journal, a newspaper, etc. Either clip them out, copy them, or send me a link. If I don't think that the article is relevant, I will let you know. | By the end of the semester |
| Do a little research on the backskatter X-ray machines being used in airports. Make a decision about its privacy concerns and write a reaction to that. If you think it is an invasion of privacy, explain how it is and what can be done to mediate those issues. | Find an example where people relied too heavily on a system. The result doesn't necessarily need to a death, but you will probably find ones that do. In a brief paragraph explain what happened and include a discription on what the reliance was. Also explain how what could have been done to fix the problem and simply "Don't rely completely on the system" is not enough. Also include a reference to your example. It can be from the web or an article, it doesn't need to be a formal reference, just one so I could go and find it if I want. | Wednesday October 5 in class. Print it out and bring it in. |
