Rules for debate Postings from Previous Semesters

Spring 2002

• Read and respect other posts
• When replying, repeat only the necessary parts of the original post
• Use proper capitalization, grammar, and spelling
• Attack the idea, not the person
• Don't be obnoxious
• Make replies must be relevant to the topic
• No hacker speak
• In an initial post, anticipate objections
• Think before you post
• No trolling or antagonizing
• ASCII mostly
• Be polite and courteous
• No anonymous posts
• Support arguments with references to the ACM and links

Fall 2002

1. Attack the ideas not the person.

2. Be courteous and polite, discuss personal issues privately. (e.g.
over email)

3. Stay on topic

4. Read previous postings so you don't repeat.

5. No "SHOUTING"

6. No PUIs (Posting Under the Influence)

7. Be concise, don't write long, rambling messages that are disorganized
and confusing and repetitive and don't make sense and take a long time
to read.

8. Proofread to avoid spelling/grammar errors.

9. No H4XOR or webtalk. (lol, brb, etc.)

10. No anonymous posts.

11. When posting, reference previous posts that you are responding to.
