Rudyard Kipling

Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) is best known to us for his "Jungle Books" and the story of "Kim" brought to our attention in the late 20th Century by the Disney Corporation.

In his prime Kipling was being paid about ten shillings for each word he wrote, equivalent in that day to about two dollars US. One day he received a letter from an admirer enclosing ten shillings and asking for a word from him. He replied simply:

"Thanks"
