• After taking votes in the three classes today, we have decided to post one more homework assignment, a multiple-choice assignment on polymorphism in C++.  Opscans will be passed out in class and will be due at the final meeting of your section next week.  McQ

• Oops, the last data set included the creation of a second car at an address.  I've removed the offending vehicle.  I don't believe it has any effect on the posted log file since that car was never created in my implementation.  McQ
• I've posted one more set of test data set that covers pretty much everything.  Enjoy.  McQ

[Nov 30]

• I've posted a test data set that examines invalid jobs.  Enjoy.  McQ
• To clarify something from the Discussion Board.  What happens when a car is dropped off at the impound lot is (mostly) up to you.  There's no requirement to simulate a storage facility there, so you can just delete the car.  There's no objection to simulating a storage facility either.  Just be sure that you avoid memory leaks, and that if you DO simulate a impound storage you make that clear in your logged results on locate commands.  McQ

• I've made two small changes to the Hokie Hook specification.  First there will never be more than 10 tow trucks. Second, the total number of addresses on the street is 100 (down from 101).  McQ

• The design solution for the Hokie Hook third project is now available on the homework page.   Bar

• The Hokie Hook third project will be due 23:59:59 Wednesday Dec. 5. (Late submissions must be made no later than 23:59:59 Sunday Dec. 9.) The demos will begin on Monday (12/3). Demo signups sheets will be placed in McB 133 in the next day or two. Students are encouraged to complete the project and demo ahead of time to avoid problems. All demos MUST be completed by the last day of classes, Wed. Dec. 12.   Bar

• I've posted an inheritance design homework assignment on the Homework page.  It is due just before the first meeting of CS 2704 on Wednesday November 28 so we can go over it in class at that point.  NO late submissions will be accepted.  McQ

[Nov 10]

• I forgot to include the HW 3 scores in the HW average in the grades. I've updated the posting. (FYI: The current class average is 76.7)   Bar

• The current course grades have been posted. (Click the grades link to your left.)   Bar
• I will give Test 2 to my sections on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.  Mr. Barnette will give Test 2 to his sections on Friday.  The test will cover everything through "Controlling Inheritance"; polymorphism will not be included.  McQ
• A draft specification for Project 3 is now available on the Projects page. Expect some changes over the next few days, but those should be relatively minor.  In other words, you should start planning your system design now. McQ

[Nov 7]

• The CS department is going to be a site for the ACM Mid-Atlantic Programming Contest this year. As a result, the McBryde 124, 116 and 118 labs will be "closed" at 1:00 on Friday,11/9, and all day on Saturday, 11/10, for the contest. The labs will re-open on Monday morning, 11/12. Bar

[Nov 4]

• After a lengthy discussion about an extension with Mr. McQuain, the due date for program 2 will be 23:59:59 Wed. Nov. 7. Bar
• However, the demos will still begin on Monday (11/5) and must be completed by Friday 11/16 for credit. Bar

• The P2 Bin Calc demos will begin on Monday. The demo signup sheets are available in McB 133. Bar
• The P1 SokoBot demo evaluation forms have been returned to students as email attachments. If you do not receive yours and you did demo then please contact me. Bar

• Test 2 will be given the week of November 12 (week before Thanksgiving Break). McQ

• I've posted a minor revision of the Project 2 specification, correcting a couple of typographical errors and adding one restriction on the input data we will generate. McQ

[October 22]

• The specification for Project 2 is available on the Projects page.  It is still labeled "draft" but there won't be any major revisions.  The due date hasn't been set, but expect it to be due in two to two-and-a-half weeks. McQ

• The SokoBot Project 1 assignment is being extended until Sunday for all 2704 sections. It must be submitted to the Curator, (in a zip archive), by 11:59:59 Oct. 7 to avoid a late penalty. Bar

• I've posted a correction to the Project 1 input file MoveRowScript.txt and corresponding log file; I had omitted a putdown command.  Let me know if you spot any similar errors. McQ

Announcement:  Test 1 Coverage

• Test 1 will be given on Monday and Tuesday next week.  The test will cover everything through association.  It will NOT include aggregation.

• I've posted a correction to the Project 1 input file SimplePickupScript.txt; I had omitted the tab after one of the status commands.  Let me know if you spot any similar errors. McQ

[September 24]

• I've posted a revised specification for the SokoBot project.  The only major change is that a status dump must also include the location stored in the pallet the robot is holding (if any).  I've also posted several test scripts along with my log files.  The format of the log file is up to you but be sure you are getting the same results.  McQ

• The HW 2 reports have been emailed to all students. A key for HW 2 has been posted.  Bar
• HW 1 Due Date:  The Curator system was unavailable for approx. two hours last night. It has been brought back on-line and the due date extended one day. In the future no such extension will be made. You should not wait until shortly before the due date before submitting. Otherwise you must accept the late penalty.  Bar

• The Curator System is now accepting submissions of Homework 1 for all sections

  You will notice that my two sections have been combined, as have Mr. Barnette's.

  Since I didn't get this set up until today, we are extending the deadline for Homework 1 to 23:59:59 on Tuesday (instead of Monday).

  Make sure you test your code with ALL of the posted test data before you submit it to the Curator. It would also be wise to read the Student Guide to the Curator before submitting.

  You are allowed five submissions for this assignment; we will count your highest score.

  Students who force-added the course late may not be listed on the Curator rolls. If you cannot log on, contact your Instructor to be added.

• I've added a fourth data set for Homework 1.  If you've implemented everything to spec, this shouldn't cause you any trouble.  McQ

[September 4]

• I've posted a small correction to the specification for Homework 1.  If a command takes two parameters, the first will not begin with a base 10 digit unless it is an integer value.  So, it is possible that the second parameter will have a digit as its first character even if both parameters are to be treated as strings instead of ints.   McQ
