Wednesday, May 7. The exams will be given in the following locations:

Your instructor will describe the exam format and coverage in class.
Week of April 28
- [McQ] I've posted updated grades
including the Project 8 scores with S/E adjustments from the TAs.
- [McQ] I've recently mailed out
the S/E scores for Project 8. If you didn't get one, but you did the
project, let me know.
Week of April 21
- [McQ] I've posted an extended
example relevant to Project 8. See the Notes
page for a link.
Week of April 14
- [McQ] I've posted updated grades
for my section. Be sure to read the announcement on the Grades
page.
- [McQ] I've posted an important
revision of the specification for Project 8. (It does help to know how
I calculated the amount due...).
Week of April 7
- [McQ] Correction: Test 2
for my section WILL definitely include struct
types.
- [McQ] My section (only) will be
submitting Project 7 to a revised version of the Curator. The URL for
the new server is:
http://eags01.cs.vt.edu:8080/Curator03
Submissions will be enabled by the afternoon of Tuesday, April
8. Note: since the new server is still somewhat experimental,
there is certainly some slight chance we will experience problems. If
any serious problems arise, I will switch the assignment back to the original
server. Any relevant announcements will be made here, and on the class
listserv.
- [McQ] I'll be giving Test 2 (my
section only) on Thursday, April 10. The test will cover everything
from iteration through arrays, but not struct
types.
Week of March 31
- [McQ] I've posted a corrected
spec for Project 7. The account data file will never contain
information for more than 50 accounts.
- [McQ] We've acquired a new
half-time GTA, Purvi Saraiya. Purvi's office hours will be from 6:30
to 10:15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Week of March 24
- [McQ] I've posted an update to
the Project 6 spec with corrected versions of the input and output files.
Week of March 17
- [McQ] I've posted a draft spec
and data for Project 8. This one may be fairly rough since I haven't
proofread it yet.
- [McQ] I've posted an updated
spec for Project 6, fixing a few typos that referred to a previous project.
- [McQ] I've posted keys for my
first test on the Koofers page.
Week of February 24
- [McQ] I've posted a draft
specification for Project 5 on the Projects
page. The due date isn't set, but it will probably be about two weeks
after the end of Spring Break.
- [McQ] I've posted the test forms
for my first test. I'll post a detailed key shortly.
Week of February 17
- [McQ] I've made a minor
correction to the specification of the input file for Project 4.
Project 4 will be due at 17:00:00 on Friday Feb 28.
Week of February 10
- [McQ] Test 1 will be given on
Tuesday, February 18. It will cover everything through the end of the
notes on Booleans and selection.
Week of February 3
- [McQ] Project 3 will due at
17:00:00 on Feb 14, not on Feb 10.
- [McQ] Project 2 is due at
midnight Feb 4, not at 5 pm.
Week of January 27
- [McQ] The Curator is now
accepting Project 2 as P2Skydiver. Due date is 23:59:59 Tuesday Feb 4;
no submissions will be taken after 23:59:59 Sunday Feb 9. Early bonus
is 1 point per day with a maximum of 5; late penalty is 10 points per day
with a maximum of 50.
- [McQ] I've updated the
specifications for Projects 3 and 4 to correct an error in the name of the
output file.
- [McQ] I've replaced the
specification for Project 2 with an entirely different problem.
- [McQ] I've re-posted the
specification for Project 2 with a minor addition. See the highlighted
section at the bottom of the first page.
- [McQ] I've shifted the tentative
due dates for Projects 2 and 3 a bit.
Week of January 20
- [McQ] The TAs office hours are
now posted on the main page.
- [McQ] I've posted a draft
specification for Project 4..
- [McQ] I've posted a very minor
revision of the specification for Project 2. There are no changes that
would have an effect on your implementation.
Week of January 13
- [McQ] The TAs will begin holding
office hours on Monday, January 20 in McBryde 116/118.
- [McQ] If you are having trouble
downloading the .NET software, or burning CDs, or you have a slow connection
from home, plan to come to the McBryde 118 lab to do it. The TAs will
be able to help you with the process.
- [McQ] The Visual C++ .NET
software can be downloaded from msdn.cs.vt.edu.
Be sure to read the license information there so you understand what you're
entitled to. Follow the login instructions that are posted there. Note
that you must sign up for a CS lab account in order to have access to this
site.
- [McQ] You should sign up for a
CS lab account. You can request an account at cslab.vt.edu.
The lab machines are in McBryde 116 and 118. McBryde 118 is used as a
classroom, so it is not always open for general use. You should try to
work in 118 if possible because the computers in 116 do not currently have
Visual C++ .NET installed.
- [McQ] I've approved all of the
force-add requests that were turned in on Tuesday.
Preliminary Announcements
- [McQ] The force-add procedure for this course is posted on the CS
Department web site. I will bring force-add forms to the first
class meeting, and make decisions about those requests by the following day.
- [McQ] First-day attendance is mandatory. Students who are enrolled but do
not attend the first class meeting will be purged from the roll, making room
to add other students who request a force-add.
