Ethics in Computing:
A class for 5th and 8th graders
Purpose:
These pages are intended to discuss the Ethics in Computing and online and are part of
a project for CS 3604 at Virginia Polytechnic and State University.
Dealing with the issues of Ethics as they relate to other topics in the computing
industry. These pages are intended to be used along with lectures that a teacher may
be making. (i.e. - After teaching students to use email, the "Email
Ethics" lecture should be taught.
Objectives:
To learn how ethics relate to the following topics:
- Basic Computer Ethics - This lecture should be
taught along with initial computer experiences. Including discussions of Viruses,
Software Piracy.
- Netiquette - This lecture deals with online
etiquette. It includes discussions of Respect and Online predators.
- Email Ethics - This lecture deals with the proper use of
email by 5th and 8th grade students. It includes discussions of what is considered
appropriate email techniques. It will also mention viruses.
- Web Ethics - This lecture deals with the proper use of the
Web. It includes sections that discuss Game Sites, Pornography & Art.
