Netiquette Projects

• One of our faculty is leading a project to provide Internet access to a class of students at an elementary school. Your group project is to develop a set of "10 Commandments of Netiquette" suitable for posting in the classroom. What 10 statements of guidance would you pick and why?

Scenarios for Debate:

• The English Department IDLE Project presented an essay entitled "A Rape in Cyberspace or How an Evil Clown, a Haitian Trickster Spirit, Two Wizards, and a Cast of Dozens Turned a Database Into a Society" by Julian Dibbell. It tells the story of an attack on a Chat Room (LambdaMOO) in which a knowledeable programmer modifies the characteristics of the objects that represent the inhabitants of the MOO. By this means they are forced to commit "unnatural" acts in the Chat Room that they abhor. The managers of the Chat Room react. Were their actions appropriate?
